SECURITY LIGHTING, ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

The safety lighting is used for marking pathways, obstacles, and changes of direction to the outputs so that users can evacuate safely and effectively, including people with disabilities.
This type of lighting allows a minimum illumination to avoid panic movements and so that help can intervene easily. In this article, we explain everything you need to know about safety lighting.

WHAT IS SECURITY LIGHTING?

Safety lighting is lighting that ensures the recognition and safe use of evacuation means and allows the evacuation of a building in the event of failure of normal artificial lighting.
Safety lighting is governed by specific requirements laid down in the legislation which lays down the basic standards of fire and explosion prevention.

THE MAIN FUNCTIONS OF SAFETY LIGHTING

Security lighting provides two main functions:
Evacuation lightingThis type of lighting is used to access outside the building by ensuring that pathways, indications markup, obstacles, and other indications are well-lit.
The installation of the evacuation lighting must be done at each change of direction, every 15 meters at least. The blocks that make up this lighting are 45 lumens.
Mood light / anti-panic this type of security lighting allows staff to navigate anywhere in the building. It must be based on a rated luminous flux of at least 5 lumens / m² of room surface.

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SAFETY LIGHTING: BAES, BAEH

There are three families of autonomous blocks:
- stand-alone emergency lighting units BAES evacuation ;
- the autonomous lighting blocks of security BAES of the atmosphere ;
- autonomous security lighting units for BAEH housing.

BAES evacuation and ambiance

BAES stands for Autonomous Safety Lighting Blocks and it is also known as backup blocks. These are light-emitting light sources intended to illuminate and indicate exits in buildings in the event of main lighting failures or emergency evacuation.

BAEH for housing

Stand Alone Residential led Lighting Units ( BAEH ) are generally dedicated to residential premises and have longer autonomy times compared to BAES. The BAEH completes the role of the BAES, especially in the premises intended for sleep.
